Happiness

What are 5 everyday things that bring you happiness?

Each day, happiness is a struggle—an elusive feeling we’re struggling to grab onto. Perhaps it is more than just finding things that bring us happiness; it is learning to appreciate the little things. In a world that is pacing faster than we are, it’s almost impossible to stop and breathe, because when we do, we find catching up is beyond our capability.

If only we had time to sit outside with a coffee in one hand and nothing in the other, as the morning breeze sweeps through our hair, we would hear the birds singing to each other. Without a care in the world, they dance before our very eyes. We couldn’t help but giggle as our small feline was too busy looking up to notice where she was going; one small stone was enough to cause our troublemaker to fall; the birds whistle in delight as their hunter rolls through the grass; her ego bruised where she sits, flicking her tail, pretending to be disinterested as her prey continue to fly through the air. The day couldn’t feel any more enchanting than it does at this moment.

Life is indeed fast-paced; by taking morning and late afternoon breaks, you’ll find refreshment in the little things life has to offer. We might not be able to stop time just yet, but we can stop trying to run after a fast-paced life, which only drags us down and offers nothing in return.

The late afternoon sets in, and the chill in the air sends shivers to our bones as we snuggle further into our jackets. The sacrifice, though, is well worth the effort. Look up, where the blue begins to mix with red, purple, and pink as the sun begins to disappear past the horizon. We can just see the silhouettes of people in the distance as the shadow of night overtakes us. Couples snuggle together as they listen to the push and pull of the waves, watching as the light reflects across the water. What could be more beautiful than a silhouette picture with the ocean and sunset behind you?

It could have been easy to list all that brings me joy; for sure, my pets, my family, my religion, my hobbies, and the outdoor scenery are right at the core of my heart. Yet, I have learned that when it comes to happiness and joy, few things can compare to the joy of giving. When we give and think about the needs of those close to us, we realise just how much we are all in need. By focusing our attention on the cares of others, our worries don’t seem as overwhelming.
